Minnesota Lynx pushes winning streak to 6 with 73-60 win over Mercury

 The Minnesota Lynx extended their winning streak to six games with a 73-60 victory over the Phoenix Mercury on Saturday.

The leading scorer for the Lynx in the win was Napheesa Collier, who had 23 points. Collier also recorded a double-double in the game, as she collected 14 rebounds with her 23 points.

 Two other Minnesota players who scored in double-digits were Courtney Williams (12), and Alanna Smith (14).

The leading scorer for the Mercury in the game was Natasha Cloud, who scored 14 points.

Minnesota had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included fast-break points (11-6), assists (18-14), and rebounds (44-31).

The Lynx also had the advantage of shooting as well, as the team shot 41.9(26-62) and Phoenix shot 31.1(23-74). Minnesota also bested the Mercury from the three-point line, with the team shooting 36.4(8-22) and Phoenix shooting 20.6 (7-34). Minnesota also bested the Mercury from the free throw line, with the team shooting 72.2(13-18) and the Phoenix shooting 58.3 (7-12).

Minnesota leads by two points at the end of the first quarter.

The Lynx started the game by jumping out to a 12-8 lead with 5:02 remaining in the opening quarter.

Alanna Smith was feeling it during that time, scoring eight of the team’s 12 points. Smith drained back-to-back three-pointers during that run.

Minnesota would add five more points to their score to take a 17-15 edge at the end of the first quarter.

The Lynx leads by 13 points at the end of the first half.

Minnesota would continue to widen their lead in the early minutes of the second quarter by going on a 12-4 run to grab a 29-19 advantage with 4:06 left in the first half.

Napheesa Collier led the charge on this run, scoring six of the team’s 12 points.

The Lynx would score nine more points in the quarter to end the first half with a 38-25 advantage.

Alanna Smith and Kayla McBride powered the offense during this time, scoring seven of the team’s nine points. They each drained a three-point shot on the run.

Minnesota leads by 19 points at the end of the third quarter.

It was the Napheesa Collier show in the third quarter, as she scored seven of the team’s 22 points, had one block, and collected five rebounds to push the Lynx’s lead to 60-41 heading into the fourth.

The Lynx takes home a 73-60 victory!

Minnesota would seal a victory in the fourth with Dorka Juhasz and Courtney Williams scoring eight of the team’s 13 points to close the game at 73-60.
