Marina Mabrey scores 20 points in Chicago Sky’s 83-73 victory over Sparks

The Chicago Sky earned their third victory of the season on Thursday with an 83-73 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks. The victory also marked the first victory of the season at home for Chicago.

The leading scorer for the Sky in the win was Marina Mabrey, who scored 20 points.

Two other Chicago players who scored in double-digits were Elizabeth Williams (17), and Dana Evans (15).

Dearica Hamby was the leading scorer for the Sparks, as she scored 24 points.

Chicago had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (40-32), turnovers (15-19), blocks (7-2), steals (13-9), assists (27-17), and rebounds (35-33).

Chicago also had the advantage of shooting as well, as the team shot 75.0% (12-16) and Los Angeles shot 72.4(21-29). The Sky also had the advantage over the Sparks at the three-point line as the team shot 36.8 (7-19) and Los Angeles shot 19.0 (4-21). Chicago also bested the Sparks at the foul line, with the team shooting 42.7 (32-75) and LA shooting 40.0 (24-60).

Chicago leads by 11 at the end of the first quarter.

The Sky was ready to get to work as soon as the ball was tipped as they flew out to a 22-12 advantage with 2:28 left in the first. Chennedy Carter and Marina Mabrey had their buckets going in with ease during that time, as they scored 14 of the team’s 22 points.

Chicago would score four more points in the first quarter to end with a 26-15 lead.

The Sky takes an 18-point lead at the end of the first half.

In the first five minutes and 58 seconds of the second quarter, it was the Dana Evans show, as she scored seven of Chicago’s 12 points during that time to give her team a 38-22 edge.

The Sky would continue to widen their advantage for the rest of the first half, as the team scored 11 more points to push their lead to 49-31. Evans and Elizabeth Williams were on fire during this time, as the duo scored seven of the team’s 11 points.

Chicago leads by nine points at the end of the third quarter.

The Sky would push their lead to 21 points (54-33) in the early minutes of the second half when Marina Mabrey hit a stepback jump shot.

Starting at the 6:34 minute mark, the Sparks would punch back by outscoring Chicago 25-13 to slice the deficit to nine points (67-58) at the end of the third quarter. Kia Nurse and Dearica Hamby had hot hands during this run, as the duo scored 17 of the team’s 25 points.

The Sky takes home an 83-73 win!

Dana Evans and Angel Reese pushed Chicago Sky to an 83-73 victory in the fourth quarter by scoring eight of the team’s 16 points.
